Johns Hopkins HospitalFor the 20th consecutive time Johns Hopkins Hospital has earned the top spot in the US News & World Report’s annual rankings of more than 4,800 American hospitals. Conceived to improve the health of the community and the world by setting the standard of excellence in medical education, research, and clinical care, the hospital’s Children's Center nearly a century old, represents the birthplace of modern pediatrics, setting the standards for pediatric research and advanced medicine. The Center’s Child Life Department provides children and families with effective coping skills before, during and after hospitalization to enhance their emotional and social well being. |
St. Jude Children’s Research HospitalFounded to be the world leader in advancing the treatment and prevention of catastrophic diseases in children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital integrates a rigorous set of values and ethical standards into the fabric of the institution to empower it to cure and enhance the quality of life of the children who come for treatment. Its Social Work Program provides education for families about the impact of the illness and how to cope with the inherent stress and problems associated with it. The hospital was ranked by US News & World Report as the nation’s top children’s cancer hospital. St. Jude has developed protocols that have helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20% in 1962 to 80% today. |
